Everything You Never Knew You Wanted

That’s right, tag sale time is around the corner and we’re selling you our stuff.

But I’m not here to talk about the tag sale itself. I’m here to talk about the awesome flyer that Malcolm made and how it has apparently offended or frightened someone in our building.

I hung it in the mailroom yesterday evening and it was gone by the time I got home from work today.

I hung a censored version (I took out the clown and even cut off the words “April Fool’s”) in the same place just to see if it’s the clown people object to- or if it’s tag sales themselves.

If this one comes down I’m breaking out the ladder and making people work to get rid of these signs.

Uh oh...I hope my awesomeness doesn't backfire (it's happened before).

You must learn to wield your awesomeness with caution.

Also, did you say that folks around were ripping the signs down? Or am I thinking of something else?

No...I thought if we put them up early, we would have to do a second round the weekend before. But now that's just...next weekend.

Also, we are green dots.

I am yellow--and I think underpricing.

Remember...one quarter to one third of what it would cost new.

OK, so the news is that nobody around here is afraid of clowns or opposed to tag sales, but rather concerned about the food that we would be selling. Bill, the super, rang the bell today and had the once posted clown sign in hand. He told me that someone in the building gave him the flyer because of the sale of food described. I’m not sure if it is a health or a fire issue, but one way or another the burgers are out, which is a major letdown.

And… should I let average ebay prices dictate item sales prices, or is that asking for trouble. Example: How much for a gamecube with wavebird and 251 memory card?

I figured I’d find average current prices and drop them (or keep it similar and let people consider it a deal as there is no shipping fee).

Dude...seriously? My first reaction is that people should get their heads out of their asses. I think we should be cooking burgers because we want to...because they are delicious. If someone wants one, good.

here's what we'll do..we'll grill, for us, with a suggested donation box for anyone outside that wants one. They are free, of course, but with a suggested donation.

as far as the gamecube oges...sell that shit on ebay B. You'll do way better than at yard sale. Plus, with all your games? You'll see 200-300 on ebay vs. $40 bucks at yard sale.

Hey man, I agree with you. I am as appalled as anyone at the small-mindedness of this.

Bill seemed to say that the concern was someone starting a fire or getting burned- I don’t know if he envisions a Joe Grates sized fire pit and children running laps around it or what.

I asked him if this meant that there was to be no grilling outside the building at any time. Although he seemed confused, I think that grilling in the side courtyard is acceptable. So as far as I can understand- we can grill in shifts and I think donations would be fine.

I want a grilled burger right now.

Right...totally your call dude. I can remove that part from the fliers and get them re-printed, if we just want to skip that whole aspect of things. It seems that it will attract unwanted attention. Honestly, I just want a burger really badly, and will be happy to cook myself one in your house and eat it outside. :)

Can I put my two cents in - The sale of food becomes a health issue - you would need a permit to sell food and kitchens must be inspected etc - You can give it away to friends but check the statutes on line - if anyone were to get sick you would be hjeld legally responsible

Yeah, Betty, we're pulling it. I thought it would be a neat thing, but it's not worth the potential trouble.

Also, I hate everything.

It’s sucks for a number of reasons-

1. Spring is about grilling (it’s a fact)
2. It reminds me of all those friendly vendors outside of concerts
3. Burgers are delicious
4. It shows how uptight this seemingly liberal town is.
5. Burgers are delicious

I agree, primarily with points 3 and 5.
